Obituary for Mary Adkins Weatherford

CROSS-Mary Louise Adkins Weatherford, of Cross, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Sunday, March 11, 2018 at WhiteOak Manor. Funeral service will be 11 am Thursday, March 15 at Avinger Funeral Home with the Rev. Kenneth Burr officiating. Burial will follow in the Black Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 5pm until 7pm at the funeral home. She was born on August 1, 1929 to the late Adam and Bertie Adkins. She was affectionally known as Chink or Mamie and touched many peoples' lives with her infectious sense of humor and love. She loved to cook for all her family and even teach them how to cook. She always had a yard full of flowers and a house full of doll babies. She loved to crochet dresses for dolls. She worked in the lunchroom at Cross High School and was also a caretaker of Mrs. Parlor. We thank the caregivers over the years. She is survived by her son Robert (Betsy) Weatherford; eight grandchildren Sam Weatherford, Kathy (Todd) Griest, Sabrina (Kip) Carter, Mayor Brandon (Laura) Weatherford, Travis Weatherford, Holly (James) Weatherford, Stacey Weatherford, Rodney Weatherford, Jenn Childs, Lieutenant Colonial Jim (Christine) Karcanes; twenty great grandchildren, and seven great-great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her two sons Julius (Son) Weatherford and Leroy (AlleyKatt) Weatherford.
