Ray Benson Mabry

Ray Benson Mabry, 71 of Holly Hill, South Carolina, passed away on Monday, April 1, 2024.

Born on September 17, 1952 in Orangeburg, South Carolina Ray was a son of the late Jackie Martin Shearouse and Horace Mabry.

Ray was an avid baseball player in his younger years.  After high school graduation Ray worked on the farm with his grandaddy. Ray worked for Gold Kist and was a heavy equipment operator for many years.  He enjoyed fishing and loved to tell stories.  He will be remembered for his stories and jokes.

Ray is preceded in death by his parents and his stepfather, Marion Shearouse.

Ray is survived by a daughter, April Gokey (Joey); a sister, Joyce Asbell (Bob); grandchildren, Hunter and Jordan Gokey; a nephew, Joseph Bowers (Courtney) and a special friend, Alice McGahan.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, April 6, 2024 from 12-1PM at Avinger Funeral Home.  A service will follow at 1PM in the chapel of the funeral home. Burial will conclude at Gerizim Methodist Church Cemetery, 1432 Vance Rd, Vance.
