Watson "Watty" Williams

HOLLY HILL, SC -Watson "Watty" Williams, Jr., 93, died Saturday, June 24, 2017 in Warriors Walk at the Brian Dorn VA Medical Center in Columbia. A funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, July 1, 2017 with Rev. Barry Owens and Rev. John Courson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service at the church. He was born October 8, 1923 in Jacksonville, FL, a son of the late Watson Williams, Sr. and Mary Clyde Page Williams. He was a WWII US Navy veteran and a 1949 graduate of The Citadel. He was a member of Bethlehem Southern Methodist Church, where he taught Sunday School for over 50 years. He was one of the founding members of the Swamp Fox Boat Club and Rescue Squad, and was a past Master of Vance Masonic Lodge # 230 AFM. Survivors include his son, Steve (Sherrie) Williams of Lexington, NC; daughters, Jenny (Steve) Crane of Winter Haven, FL and Cathy Winningham of Harleyville; a brother, Tinker (Audie) Williams of Walterboro; a sister,Lillian Watson of Columbia; 6 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of over 70 years, Julia Moorer Williams. Memorials may be made to Bethlehem Southern Methodist Church, 229 Bethlehem Rd, Holly Hill, SC 29059 or to the WJB Dorn VA Hospital/Warriors Walk, 6439 Garners Ferry Rd, Columbia, SC 29209.
