SANTEE - Ted Carlisle Shuler, 84, of the Providence Community, widower of Ruth Griffin Shuler, died Saturday, June 4, 2016 at MUSC hospital in Charleston. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Providence United Methodist Church with Rev. Terry Martin officiating. Burial will follow in the Island Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Corey Shuler, James Shuler, Rob Sheffield, Trey McGriff, Taylor Buckley, and Dean Hutto. Ted was born in Orangeburg County, a son of the late M. Fillmore Shuler and Hazel S. Shuler. He was a graduate of Providence High School and an Army veteran of the Korean War. Ted was a co-owner of the former Elloree Builders Supply, and also was co-owner of Ted Shuler and Sons Farm. He was a former member and first chairman of the Orangeburg County Fire Commission and a member of Providence UMC. Surviving are sons, Howard (Gwen) Shuler, Michael (Cindy) Shuler, Otis (Kim) Shuler, and Dahl (Karen) Shuler, all of the Providence Community; sisters, Vera Stroman of Orangeburg and Sylvia (Sidney) Skinner of Columbia; brothers, Charles V. Shuler of Holly Hill and Kenneth (Angie) Shuler of Lexington; grandchildren, Nicole (Rob) Sheffield of Laurens, Kristen (Taylor) Buckley of Summerville, Candice (Trey) McGriff, Corey (Kayla) Shuler, Ashley Shuler, Sara Shuler (fianc, Dean Hutto), and James Shuler, all of the Providence Community; great-grandchildren, Brian Sheffield, Ruthie Sheffield, Mason McGriff, John Parler McGriff, and Anna Ward McGriff. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. this Monday evening at Avinger Funeral Home, other times at the home of Michael and Cindy Shuler.
