Sylvia Martin Strickland

VANCE - Sylvia Martin Strickland, 70, of Vance, died Thursday, December 19, 2013 at Lake Marion Nursing Facility in Summerton. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at Gerizim United Methodist Church with Rev. Ed Stiltz officiating. Visitation will follow the service. Sylvia was born in Orangeburg, a daughter of the late Joe Martin and Matilda Williams Martin. She was a waitress and a member of Gerizim UMC. She was preceded in death by a daughter, JoAnn Beach, and brother, Shufford Martin. Surviving are sons, David Thompson of Vance and Robin Thompson of Taylors; a daughter, Sheila Thompson of Vance; a sister, Edna Hill of Lebanon; a half brother, Bobby Yount of Eutawville; grandchildren, Wayne Thompson, Brandi Burton, David Thompson, Nathan Thompson, Chantell Thompson, Kyle Smith, and Forrest Fugitt; and 7 great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends at the home of Sheila Thompson, 157 Azeeban Road, Vance.
