Steve Weathers

BOWMAN - Stephen W. "Steve" Weathers, 76, of the Ebenezer Community, Bowman, died Saturday, April 28, 2012 at his home. The funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Ebenezer United Methodist Church with Rev. Marie Ray and Chaplain Ken Hay officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Hal Arant, Michael Smoak, Jesse Griffith, Edwin Smoak, Tommy Turner, Steve Weathers, Charlie Murphy, and Daniel Smoak. Honorary pallbearers will be Thomas Riser, John Quattlebaum, William Wimberly, Bobby Arant, Freddie Jaques, Jakie Riser, Mac Bair, Archie Felder, John Felder, Arden Weathers, Rodney Smith, and Alton Whetsell. Mr. Weathers was born in Bowman, a son of the late Harry Whetsell Weathers and Ennis Weathers Seale. He was a dairy farmer until 1984 when he began working at Wannamaker Motor Co. and later at Bilton-Behr Chevrolet. Mr. Weathers was a member of the Elks Club, and a member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church where he was a former Sunday School Teacher and past Lay Leader. An avid gardener, his specialty was tomatoes, which he loved sharing with his friends. Above all, he was a devoted husband, proud father and Pappy. He was preceded in death by siblings, Harry Wayne Weathers, and Ennis Elaine Weathers. Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Margaret Smoak Weathers of the home; daughters, Tammy Smith and her husband, Rogers of Bowman, and Stephanie Murphy and husband, Mark of Cameron; grandchildren, Stephen Haden Smith and wife, Kacey of Cameron, Craig Walters Smith and wife, Katherine of Orangeburg, and Charles Thomas "Charlie" Murphy of Orangeburg; great-granddaughters, Weathers Love Smith and Bridge Ansley Smith of Cameron; his beloved dog, Casey; special nephew, Steve Wayne Weathers and his wife, Veronica of Savannah, Ga.; and caregivers, Jean Judy, Shay Kinsey and Georgia Mosley. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. this Monday at Avinger Funeral Home, Holly Hill, and other times at the home.
