Sidi Calvin Grooms

Sidi Calvin Grooms, 82 of Cross, South Carolina, passed away on Saturday, September 27, 2025.

Born on October 10, 1942 in Cross Calvin was a son of the late Geraldine Burbage Grooms and Sidi Grooms.

Sidi Calvin Grooms was a true pillar of strength. He was honest, humble, and incredibly hardworking. A lifelong farmer, he made his living planting corn and soybeans and took great pride in tending his personal garden each season. Calvin was also a highly skilled butcher, working for decades at the family-owned Magnolia Meat Market. He later founded and operated Grooms Processing for over 25 years, serving generations of hunters throughout the region with care and precision. Calvin’s hands told the story of a man who never shied away from a hard day’s work. He poured his heart into everything he did whether cultivating the land or caring for his family. His work ethic was unmatched, his word was his bond, and his love for those around him ran deep. Calvin’s life was rooted in hard work and loving his family, and the values he lived by will continue to shape and inspire his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren for generations too come. 

Calvin is preceded in death by his wife Mary Elizabeth "Sis" Grooms, his parents, sisters Jeanette "Dolly" Sanders and Catherine Smith and brother Alvin Grooms.

Calvin is survived by daughters Sherri Swank (Rob), Kim Grooms (Dawn), Stacey Speas (Eric) ; son Jason Grooms; grandchildren Brandon Oglesby (Allison), Seth Swank (Alyssa), Hannah Sanders (Trever), Joshua Speas, Sydney Swank, Mason Grooms, and Jonathan Speas; great grandchild Ava Grace Sanders; sister Mary Hall and special family member Momma Hester Ravenell.

The family will receive friends on Friday, October 3, 2025, from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM at Avinger Funeral Home, 2274 Eutaw Road in Holly Hill, South Carolina.

The service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 4, 2025 at Avinger Funeral Home, 2274 Eutaw Road in Holly Hill, South Carolina. The burial will follow at Black Creek in Cross, South Carolina.
