Ruby Dell Young

October 22, 1943 — March 25, 2017

VANCE - Ruby Dell 'Mee-Mee' Jackson Young, 73, of Vance, formerly of Charleston, passed away on Saturday, March 25, 2017, surrounded by her loved ones. Ruby was born on October 22, 1943 to Henry "Dutch" and Willie Mae Jackson on Jackson Belt Road in Holly Hill, SC. She graduated from Holly Hill High School in 1962. She married Edward Young on September 12, 1964 and they spent 52 wonderful years together. She was a book keeper for their family owned towing business, Young's Towing, and later in life she was a daycare worker and ran the infant room at Loving Learning. She enjoyed reading, watching NASCAR races, and collecting angels. "Mee-Mee's" greatest joy in life was her family. She was blessed with three wonderful girls and they meant the world to her. In 1985 she became a grandmother for the first time and found another joy in life, and that joy increased greatly with each of her other seven grandchildren that were born. She loved spoiling her grandchildren and making arts and crafts with them. She was an amazing cook and made the best potato salad and even had a "secret" family recipe for macaroni casserole, both of which were the first things to go at every family gathering. We love you and miss you so much and even though we are in pain now, we are happy that you are no longer suffering. You have given us so much and showed us how important family is and how important it is to make the most of our time together. You have shown us what it means to be strong, and how to be, as you called yourself "a tough old bird." We are thankful for the time we had together and you will never be forgotten. In addition to her husband, Edward "Eddie" Young, Ruby is survived by three daughters, Shelia Kidwell (Mark), Michelle Hunter (Chris), Sara Benton (David); eight grandchildren, Stephen Kidwell (Katie Hall), Samantha Kline (Trevor), Brenna McAlhany (Justin), Kenneth Hazine, Joseph Hazine, Jessica Hunter, Joshua Hunter, and Jonathan Hunter, and one great-grandson, Riley Kidwell. She is also survived by three sisters, Barbara Griffin (Buddy), Grace Branham, and Christine Blake, and a large extended family. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her father and mother-in-law, Harold "PaPa" and Geneva "Nanny" Young, three brothers, and five sisters. Her Funeral Service will be held Monday, March 27, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. in Avinger Funeral Home, 2274 Eutaw Road, Holly Hill, SC 29059. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place immediately following the service in Target United Methodist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations to be made to Avinger Funeral Home, PO Box 203, Holly Hill, SC 29059.
