Richard Henderson Cummings, Jr., "Rick", 57, of Holly Hill, died on Monday, July 29, 2013. The family will receive friends on Friday, August 2, 2013 at the Avinger Funeral Home in Holly Hill from 5-7 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 3, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at the Holly Hill United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the Holly Hill Cemetery. The Reverend Cooper Stonestreet will officiate. Pallbearers will be Jim Russell (childhood and life time friend), John Wiggins, Jerry Gardner, Charlie Heyward, Witte Bull, Joe Shuler, Clinton Shuler, Lou Burch, Rusty Brodie, Buddy Bilton, and Dan Hutto. Honorary pallbearers will be the Fraternity Brothers of Theta Chi Fraternity at Newberry College. Mr. Cummings was born on April 27, 1956, in Norristown, Pennsylvania to Daisy Rhode Cummings and the late Richard H. Cummings. He is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Cynthia Singletary Cummings, of the home. He is also survived by his two sons Richard Henderson Cummings, III and Rhett Harris Cummings. He was a member of the Holly Hill United Methodist Church and The Seekers Sunday School class. He was also part of the Emmaus community. He was a 1974 honor graduate of Holly Hill Academy where he lettered in all sports and received the Faculty Award. Rick scored the first touchdown in the history of Holly Hill Academy. He was a Boy's State representative and student body president. He currently served on the Board of Directors at his beloved school. He graduated Cum Laude from Newberry College in 1978. He was a member of the Newberry Tennis Team, Blue Key Honor Society and Theta Chi Fraternity, serving as President his Senior year. At Newberry, he was Athlete of the Year his senior year. He was employed in sales in the concrete block and hardscapes business for over 35 years (Cemex, Unicon, Metromont, Santee Block Company) priding himself in his customer relationships. He was currently employed with Oldcastle-Adams. He also served on two Career Technology Schools' Masonry Advisory Boards. In addition to his wife, sons, and mother, he is survived by his two brothers, William Samuel "Billy" (Gayle Berry) Cummings of Holly Hill, and Steven Rhode (Rebecca) Cummings of Birmingham, Alabama. He loved his sisters-in-law, two nephews, Blake and Grant, and two nieces, Lanie and Larson. His many loves included his boys, wife and family, beloved friends, The New York Yankees, and the Clemson Tigers. He cherished his time with family and friends in Hilton Head Island, Garden City, and Walt Disney World. Rick was an avid golfer who attended the Masters Golf Tournament each year, and he was proud of skillfully achieving five holes-in-one on several local golf courses. He will be greatly missed by his wife, sons, family, friends, golf partners, and his Theta Chi fraternity brothers. Memorials may be made to the Holly Hill United Methodist Church, P.O.
