ELLOREE - Rev. Thomas C. "T.C." Gilliam, 87, of Elloree, widower of Dolly Griffin Gilliam, died Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at the Regional Medical Center in Orangeburg. The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Jerusalem United Methodist Church with Rev. Barry Allen officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Rev. Gilliam was born in Pomaria, a son of the late James Newton Gilliam and Annie Belle Bishop Gilliam. An Army veteran of World War II, he was a graduate of Newberry College, and the Candler School of Theology, Emory University. He was a long-time United Methodist minister having retired in 1992 after 41 years. After retiring, Rev. Gilliam became an active member of Jerusalem UMC and enjoyed playing golf. He was known for reciting poetry and quoting scripture. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Cassandra Jenkins. Surviving are daughters, Debra Tarver of Savannah, and Darlene Heaton of Elloree; and a brother, Eugene Gilliam of Newberry. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the church.
