SANTEE - Providence Tota, 88, passed away Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at her daughter's home in Myrtle Beach. A funeral Mass will be held 10 AM, Saturday, July 1st at St. Ann Catholic Church, Santee, officiated by Father Mazimino Tria, Jr. Inurnment will be private. Visitation will be 5 - 7 PM Friday at Avinger Funeral Home in Holly Hill. Mrs. Tota grew up in New York, and after marriage settled in Staten Island, moving to Santee in the 1980's. She was a nurse for over 30 years and specialized in newborn infant care. She was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church Ladies Association, The Elloree Enchanters Red Hatters, Elloree Quilting Club, and the Santee Lions Club. She was a self-taught and masterful craftsperson and enjoyed creating many knitting, crochet, cross-stitch, needlepoint, quilting, applique and doll-making projects for family and friends, and winning many blue ribbons and top awards at local state fairs. She loved card games and played a few times a week with friends. She was a loving mother and devoted to her daughters, stepsons, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors are daughters, Denise Castro and husband, Frank of Summerville; Donna Donnelly and husband, Harold of Elloree; and Laura Stuhl of Myrtle Beach; step-sons, John Tota, Jr. of Morristown, NJ; Frank Tota, and wife Elizabeth, of Middletown, NJ; and Michael Tota and wife Kim, of Jackson, NJ; twelve grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
