Paul Cantley

COPE - Marion Paul Cantley, Jr.,82, of Cope, husband of Marjorie Hunter Cantley, died Monday, March 9, 2014 at his home. A memorial service will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church in Orangeburg with Dr. Steve Graves officiating. Burial will follow in the Holly Hill Cemetery, Holly Hill. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Lacoste, Archie Felder, John Felder, Alva Whetsell, Jack Valentine, Ed Floyd, Tommy Platt, Jeb Runager, Don Garrick, and the employees of Holly Hill Farm Center. Paul was born in Kingstree, a son of the late Marion Paul Cantley and Mavin Brown Cantley. A graduate of Kingstree High School, he graduated from Clemson University in 1956, and served in the US Army from 1956 to 1958. Paul worked in agriculture for over 47 years, working with growers all over the Low Country of SC. He was owner/operator of Holly Hill Farm Center from 1974 until present. Paul enjoyed his grandchildren, cooking for friends, riding horses, as well as hunting and fishing especially when the doves were flying or the fish were biting. He was a long-time member of Pine Barren Hunting Club and a past member of the Fertilizer Advisory Board at Clemson University. Paul was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Orangeburg, the John Knox Sunday School Class and a the Jim Turner Men's Bible Study at the church. Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Margie of the home; children, David V. Cantley (Sallie) of Holly Hill, Lynn C. Castanada (Carlo) of Winston-Salem, NC, and Dianne C. Stone (Billy) of Greensboro, NC; sisters, Linda C. McLean (Kit) of Coward, and Mary Emma Brown of Kingstree; grandchildren, Morgan and Rebecca Cantley, David Castaneda, Hunter and Nate Stone. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. this Tuesday at Avinger Funeral Home in Holly Hill, and from 1:30 until 2:45 at the church on Wednesday.
