Mary Jane Cox

Elloree- Mary Jane Cox of Elloree died on February 22 at Madison Health Rehabilitation in Mars Hill, NC. Miss Cox was born February 4,1932 in Parler, SC, the younger daughter of the late F. Glenn Cox and Dorothy Moorer Cox. Granddaughter of R. Q. Moorer and Eliza Avinger Moorer of Parler and W. A. Cox and Lunda Black Cox of Linwood, NC. Jane was a graduate of Elloree High School, Class of 1950, and attended Newberry College. She lived in Atlanta, GA for many years where she worked for Union Camp Corporation. Jane was an active member of Cedar Grove UMC of Conley, GA. After moving to Elloree, she joined Trinity Lutheran Church where she served on the Church Council, taught a Sunday School Class, and sang in the choir. Survivors include her sister, Dorothy C. Shirer, of Elloree, a nephew Jimmy Shirer (Debbie) of Sumter, and a niece Lunda S. Reeder (Tom) of Asheville, NC. Grandnieces/nephews: Cristy Shirer, Dora Grubbs (Bill), Jamey Shirer, and Matt Reeder (Sarah). Great grand-niece/nephews: Emma Reeder, Jake and Rob Shirer, Trey and Devon Dawson, and a special friend Kay O. Shirer. Miss Cox dearly loved her church, Bible study, and time with her family and friends. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, March 9th at Trinity Lutheran Church with the Reverend Mitch Evans officiating. The family will receive friends immediately after the service. Avinger Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 263, Elloree, SC 29047
