HOLLY HILL- Mary Klugh Garner Tindal, widow of James E. Tindal, was born on June 15, 1920 in Union, South Carolina, the daughter of Edwin Maurice Garner and Mary Klugh Garner. She was a 1937 honor graduate of Union High School and a 1941 graduate of Winthrop College where she earned a BS in Music withmajors in piano performance andEnglish. At Winthrop she was a YWCA Cabinet member and accompanist for the Winthrop College Sextette. Funeral Service will be 2pm Saturday, February 3 at Corinth Baptist Church with the Rev. Dan Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 pm until 7 pm Friday at Avinger Funeral Home. Mary came to Holly Hill in 1941 to teach public school music and piano. Here she met and married James E. Tindal and they resided in Holly Hill, rearing three daughters. A member of Corinth Baptist Church, she was organist and choir director for thirty-nine years and taught Youth and Adult Sunday School there. She was active in community organizations including the Ivy Garden Club and the Pierian Book Club. She was a founding member and past president of the Holly Hill Music Club; a member and past president of the South Carolina Federation of Music Clubs; a Life Member of the National Federation of Music Clubs and a Rose Fay Thomas Fellow. As a piano teacher, she was a member of the National Guild of Piano Teachers and an adjudicator for National Guild Auditions. Mary enjoyed painting, writing, gardening, sewing, bridge and visiting with her many friends. She cherished her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, telling stories of her childhood experiences and family history and also hearing of their activities. Predeceased by her parents, sister, Caroline G. McLaughlin and brother, Edwin Maurice Garner, Jr., she is survived by her three daughters: Mary "Mimi" T. Meyer, Caroline B. Tindal and Henrietta "Retta" T. McAllister (Bick); grandchildren: Mary Klugh Hart (Andrew Kratter), Julia H. Warwick (Brian), Thomas Robert Hart, Jr., James Tindal Hart (Lori), Andrew Frank McAllister (Elizabeth), John Tindal McAllister (Katee) and William Bradley McAllister (Kaitlin); great-grandchildren: Danielle Clifton, Robert Warwick, Gabrielle Hart, James Hart, Thomas Hart, Mac McAllister, Sam McAllister and Claire McAllister.
