Martha Couturier DuPree

Martha Couturier DuPree, 63, of Cross, South Carolina, passed away, Thursday, November 25, 2021 at her home. Martha was born February 15, 1958 to the late Elias Couturier and Eliza Spiers Couturier.

Martha graduated from Holly Hill Academy and the College of Charleston where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority. She spent her entire teaching career at Cross Elementary School in the Berkeley County School District. She was a dedicated teacher for over 30 years and was much loved and highly respected by her co-workers, students, and parents. This is evidenced by the friendships she has maintained over the years with former students and their parents. She has followed the lives of so many students as they left Cross High and moved on with their lives. She has celebrated weddings and college graduations and has been so proud of each of them as they took jobs, began families, gave back to their community, continued their education, and launched successful careers. She has celebrated their successes as though they were her own and shed tears when one of them faced heartbreak. Her influence will live on in the lives of countless young people that she has touched in and out of the classroom.

She would want it said of her also that she was a lifelong Clemson fan and has loved her Tigers through the hard years, the building years, and the exciting successes. She loved her Tigers with all her heart.

Martha is survived by her daughter, Rebecca Couturier DuPree Boyles (Will) of Florence, South Carolina, her son Elias Couturier DuPree, of the home, a sister Mary Elizabeth Ellis (Mack) of Lexington, South Carolina, granddaughter Adeline Couturier Boyles, grandson, Anderson Lee Boyles of Florence, South Carolina and several nieces and nephews and very special cousins. In addition to her parents, Martha was predeceased by her husband Allan DuPree.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7PM, Monday, November 29, 2021 at Avinger Funeral Home

Martha was a lifelong member of The Historic Church of the Epiphany in Eutawville, SC. Services for Martha will be held Tuesday, November 30, 2021 at 3PM at The Historic Church of the Epiphany in Eutawville with burial to follow in the churchyard. The family will receive friends after the service in the fellowship hall.

Pallbearers will be Tom Hutto, Pete Lesesne, Harold Padgett, Don Shelley, Ethan Shelley, Gaillard Simons, Joey Szorosy and Troy Troutman. Honorary Pallbearers will be Elias Lesesne, Haskell Padgett, and Mike Padgett.
