SANTEE - Margaret "Mimi" Howze Howe, 75, of Santee Cooper Resort, Santee, widow of Col. Robert H. Howe Sr., U.S. Army (Ret.), died Tuesday, June 19, 2012, at her home. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, June 22, at Beaufort National Cemetery, Beaufort, where she will be laid to rest with her beloved husband. Mrs. Howe was born in El Paso, Texas, a daughter of the late Maj. Gen. Robert L. Howze Jr. and Margaret Richmond Howze. She attended Louisiana State University. During the time she spent with us, she truly touched our lives and souls, and her presence in our life is a gift we will always be thankful for. Above all, Mimi's family was the priority of her life. Her interests included family, entertaining friends, gardening, golf and reading. She devoted much of her time and energy as a loving caregiver to her husband until he passed away at age 77. Surviving are sons Robert (Michele) Howe Jr. and Wade Howe, both of Orangeburg, and Richard (Malinda) Howe of Acworth, Ga.; a sister, Anne Hawkins Phillips of Oviedo, Fla.; two granddaughters, Amber and Kara; three step-grandsons, William, Nathan and Jacob; and a great-grandson, Robert III. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, 520 Gervais St., Suite 300, Columbia, SC 29201. Avinger Funeral Home of Holly Hill is assisting the family.
