SUMMERTON, SC - Lorraine Hughes Reynolds, 82, departed this world for heaven Saturday, April 22, 2017 at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence embraced by her loving daughter. Lorraine was born November 19, 1934 in Niagara Falls, NY, the daughter of the late Francis B. and Mary Annetta Phillips Hughes, Sr. After graduation from LaSalle High School, she married and started her family. In 1974, the family moved to Crete, IL and she worked for 15 years at First National Bank in Chicago Heights, IL. Lorraine then went to work for Target in Matteson, IL for 15 years until her retirement in 2004, when she moved to SC with her daughter and son-in-law. Lorraine was an excellent pianist in her younger years before becoming a loving and devoted mother. She was a lifelong Episcopalian and was a former member of the Church of the Holy Family in Park Forest, IL. She was currently a member of the Historic Church of the Epiphany in Eutawville, SC where she volunteered in the office and was a member of the Episcopal Church Women and Daughters of the King. She also volunteered at Hebron Colony for Women Grace Home in Santee, SC. She had an unwavering faith in God. Survivors include her children, Glenn (Maryann) Reynolds of Indianapolis, IN, Suzan (Randy) Smith of Monroe, WA, Arthur (Diane) Reynolds, Jr. of Crete, IL, and Janice (Donald) Brady of Summerton; her grandchildren, Glenn, Jr. of Parkton, NC, Jeffery of Niagara Falls, Christopher of Watertown, NY, Elizabeth of Indianapolis, Laura of Cincinnati, OH, Taylor of Greenville, NC, Joseph of Chicago, Sarah of Park Forest, IL, Arthur, III of Lowell, IN, Jacob of Cedar Lake, IN, and 19 great-grandchildren. Others are her beloved sister-in-law, Dorothy (Krieger) Hughes of Ransomville, NY, three step-sisters, Bobbette Bensen of TN, Shirley Venturin of Niagara Falls and Constance McKay of FL, her nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear relatives in England. She will be deeply missed by her family, church family, and close friends. Lorraine never met a stranger. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her stepmother, Ivy Hughes, two daughters, Maribeth and Tamara, her brother Francis B. "Frank" Hughes, Jr. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, April 27, 2017 at The Historic Church of the Epiphany, 211 Epiphany Rd., Eutawville, SC with Rev. Tom Hendrickson officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 PM Wednesday at Avinger Funeral Home in Holly Hill. Inurnment will be announced at a later date in St. Paul's Episcopal Church Columbarium in Lewiston, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Historic Church of the Epiphany, PO Box 9, Eutawville, SC 29048 or the Hebron Colony for Women Grace Home, PO Box 407, Santee, SC 29142.
