Linda Salter Gooding, 80, of Ridgeville, SC, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 19, 2025. She was born in Saluda, SC, the daughter of the late Wilbur Wright Salter and Wilma Iris Smith.
Linda is survived by her husband, Rhett, daughter, Iris Lewis (Bryan), and grandson Ayden. She is also survived by her sister Nettie Poston (Johnnie), sister-in-law Sherry Turner, nieces: Leslie Nolan (Tony), and Leah Poston, nephew, Dale Lovingood (Bessie) great-nieces: Bella, Sydney, and Sasha, and a great-nephew, Owen.
Linda graduated from North Charleston High School, N. Charleston class of 1962, the College of Charleston in 1965 with a Bachelor of Science, and the University of Tennessee in 1967 with a Master of Arts.
Linda began her teaching career at Baptist College (Charleston Southern University) where she spent 40 years as a history professor. She was very active in the women’s teaching sorority, Delta Kappa Gamma, where she held many local and state positions. Her love of music and the Lord paved a way for her as a Sunday school teacher and choir director for both First Baptist Church, N. Charleston, and Sandridge Baptist Church for many years. She touched so many lives throughout her time here on earth.
Above all, Linda was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, and grandmother. She put God and her family first in all that she did and found her true calling in being a grandmother. She loved every minute she spent caring for, molding, and shaping Ayden into the young man he is today.
Burial will be private at a later date. The family will receive friends from 10:00AM-11:00AM on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at Sandridge Baptist Church, 4677 State Rd, Ridgeville, SC 29472. A celebration of life service will be held immediately afterwards. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lutheran Hospice, 1885 Rifle Range Road, Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464, or Sandridge Baptist Church, 4677 State Rd, Ridgeville, SC 29472.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt gratitude to all of the wonderful people of White Oak Manor of Charleston and Lutheran Hospice who helped take such good care of Linda. It was so wonderful to witness the outpouring of love she received.
