Lewis Earl Rourk

February 9, 1952 — July 10, 2017

ELLOREE - Lewis Earl Rourk, 65, of Elloree passed away Monday, July 10th, 2017, at The Regional Medical Center in Orangeburg. Born February 9th, 1952, in Orangeburg, Lewis was the son of Mrs. Emily Wiles Rourk and the late James Isaac Rourk, Sr. He was a graduate of Elloree High School and received his business degree from the University of South Carolina in 1975. Lewis was employed with SC DHEC for over twenty-five years in wastewater management. An active member of First Baptist Church of Elloree, there he currently served as deacon, chairman of the Finance Committee and was a member of the Missions Committee. Lewis loved his community and at one time or another served as a volunteer firefighter, member of the Lions Club, Masons, and Knights of Pythias, and coached all age ranges of baseball. He was an avid fan of the Gamecocks, win or lose. But, perhaps, Lewis's greatest joy in life was being a doting husband, father, and Poppy to his girls. Lewis is survived by his mother of Jolley Acres Healthcare Center; his wife Jenny Kirby Rourk, of the home; daughter and son-in-law Emily and Edward Gibbs, of Irmo; granddaughters Charlotte Ruth and Catherine Pearl Gibbs, of Irmo; brother James Isaac Rourk, Jr., of Murphy, NC; brother-in-law Joe Kirby (Joy) of Waterloo; sister-in-law Julie Kirby Hobbs (Steve) of Laurens; numerous nieces and nephews; several aunts and uncles; many cousins and other extended family members. Services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, July 13th, at First Baptist Church of Elloree with the Rev. Don Bell officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the church and at all other times at the residence, 305 Stack Avenue, Elloree. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in Lewis's name to Hope for BraveHEARTS, Post Office Box 2924, Irmo, SC 29063. https://youtu.be/Fokl_TSW-Wg
