Lawrence Emil Reith, 79, of Elloree, South Carolina, husband of Cindy Reith, passed away Sunday, March 1, 2026.
Born September 24, 1946, in Syracuse, New York, Larry was the son of Vera McGee Reith and Emil William Reith.
Larry earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Science and Mathematics from Oneonta State College in Oneonta, New York, and a Master’s degree in Reading from Albany State University in Albany, New York. He began his teaching career in 1968 at Lynnwood Elementary School in Guilderland, New York, where he taught fifth grade until 1978. He then continued teaching at Farnsworth Middle School in Guilderland from 1978 until his retirement in 2001. After retiring, Larry continued to share his passion for education by substitute teaching at Burnt Hills–Ballston Lake Middle School for several more years.
Larry enjoyed gardening, travel, photography, and spending time with friends and family. He and his wife traveled to Europe several times and continued traveling throughout the United States before eventually moving to South Carolina, where Cindy continues to reside.
Larry was preceded in death by his father, Emil William Reith, and his mother, Vera McGee Reith.
He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Cindy; his son, Darren Reith (Kari); grandchildren Joshua Reith and Abigail (Patrick); and great-granddaughters Raegan and Emersyn; his son, Todd Reith (Debra); grandchildren Joey Reith and Mia Reith; and Todd’s daughters from a previous marriage, Khirstian Carbonello and Julia Proper.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, April 11, 2026 at 1PM at Elloree Methodist Church, 501 W. Barkley St. Elloree. Rev. Rick Atkinson Officiating.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to those who provided exceptional care and support to Larry: Edisto Home Care and Hospice, especially Neeley Hankes, RN; Brandy Hudson, LPN; Margaret Friday, CNA; and Janice Felkel, Social Worker; Dr. Anna Price, MD; and Ms. Vernette Shivers for the excellent care she provided to Larry and for the support she gave Cindy while caring for her husband. Larry loved all of you.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: The ALS Association – South Carolina Chapter, Saving Animals Southern Style, Elloree, SC (via Facebook) and Edisto Home Care and Hospice, Orangeburg.
