J.W. "Billy" Matheny

HOLLY HILL - Services for John William "Billy" Matheny, 87, of Holly Hill, will be 4 p.m. Sunday in the Holly Hill United Methodist Church. Burial will be private in the Holly Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends after the service in the fellowship hall of the church. A lifelong native of Holly Hill, Billy was the son of the late Newman W. Matheny and Olive Rhame Matheny. He was president The Citadel Class of 1947 and such coordinated the reunions Citadel classes. An avid golfer, Billy was one of the organizers of Holly Hill Country Club, which was built on his family farm. As a longtime member of the local business community, he was president of Santee Wholesale Company and later of Seasonal Industries. Billy was a member of Holly Hill United Methodist Church and served in various official capacities for many years. Surviving are his wife, Ermine Floyd Matheny of Holly Hill; brother-in-law, Carlisle Floyd of Tallahassee; daughters, Martha Solomon and her husband, Jeremy, of Charleston, Jane and Harriett Matheny, both of Tallahassee, FL, and Nancy Kitchin and her husband, David, of Cincinnati, OH; grandchildren, Jamie Solomon Stampar, Mary Cameron Kitchen, Katie Kitchin Weller, Darby Kitchin, and Annie Kitchin; great-grandchildren, Daniel, Kai, Palmer, and Julliette Stampar.
