John Willis "Billy" Swicegood

John Willis “Billy” Swicegood III, 62, of Gaston, South Carolina, formerly of Holly Hill, passed away on Tuesday, September 23, 2025.

Born on September 19, 1963, in Summerville, Billy was the son of the late Leona Davis Swicegood and John Swicegood. He was a 1981 graduate of Holly Hill Academy, where he was active in all sports. Billy went on to attend the University of South Carolina and later earned his degree from Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College, ultimately receiving a bachelor’s degree in business.

A passionate Gamecock football fan, Billy also enjoyed restoring old vehicles and researching his family’s ancestry. In his younger years, he served as an acolyte at Holly Hill Methodist Church, where he was a member. Of all his passions, none compared to the pride he took in teaching his grandchildren how to swim.

Billy was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter, Amie Griffith.

He is survived by his daughter, Lindsey Swicegood (AJ); his sons, Jonathan (Haley) and Jeffery Flannery; his sisters, Mary Ann Beaudrot, Marie Rataj (Scott), and Melinda Carlos (Don); and his beloved grandchildren, Landon Griffith and Payton Griffith. He is also remembered by numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, September 28, 2025, from 2:00 to 3:00 PM at Avinger Funeral Home, with a memorial service to follow at 3:00 PM in the chapel.
