Jeanette Elliott Shuler,84, widow of Abram Manning Shuler, Jr passed away peacefully on June 20, 2025 surrounded by her family. Born December 5,1940 in Greeleyville, SC she was the daughter of the late Thurman Bernice Elliott, Sr, and Mary Essie Roberts Elliott.
Jeanette lived a life rooted in faith, family, and deep devotion to educating children. Jeanette attended Holly Hill High School and Columbia College where she received her degree in Elementary Education. In 1963, she married her high school sweetheart. As a young educator, Jeanette taught school on base at Fort Benning, GA while Manning was serving in the US Army. After returning to South Carolina, they settled in the Providence Community where they raised their three children on the family farm.
For over thirty years, Jeanette devoted herself to educating the youth of Orangeburg County in both the public and private schools. She had a natural gift for connecting with her students and instilled confidence in them that stayed with them beyond the classroom. As a member of Providence Methodist Church, Jeanette was active in the Belle Bennett Subunit for many years.
She was an avid card player and enjoyed playing bridge with her friends as a member of the Providence Bridge Club. She also enjoyed reading a good book and going to the beach with friends and family. Known for her quick wit and playful spirit, Jeanette had a way of making those around her smile with her clever one-liners and humorous antics- which she kept in her later years even as her health declined.
Above all, Jeanette was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great- grandmother. She rarely missed a sporting event or school function and loved being present in her family’s lives.
Jeanette is survived by her children, Sonya Shuler Crider (Thomas), Elliott Manning Shuler (Brandy), and Meg Shuler Rogers(Brent), her grandchildren, Cindy Crider Lampson(Tim),Kayla Crider Whisnant(Jared), Ashley Crider Infinger(Marion), Charlotte Shuler, Julia Shuler, Abe Shuler, Ava Branch, Emma Branch, Hunter Branch, and Margo Rogers, great- grandchildren, Asher Lampson and Manning Infinger, her sister Frances Sinkler, her sister in-law Linda Shuler, as well as her loving nieces and nephews.
Jeanette was preceded in death by husband, her parents, her sister Lucy Rush and her brothers Buck Elliott and Thurman Elliott, her brothers in-law Larmie Prickett, Katon Rush, and Ken Shuler, her sister in-law, Elaine Elliott, her granddaughter, Laura Rogers, and her niece, Mary Beth Prickett. The family will receive friends at Avinger Funeral Home, 2274 Eutaw Road, Holly Hill, SC 29059 on Sunday, June 22 from 5:00 to 7:00 and at other times at the residence.
