Ida Lou Hanks

July 14, 1918 — January 16, 2017

Ida Lou Hanks, 98, of Holly Hill, formerly of Honea Path, died Monday, January 16, 2017 at home. A funeral service will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Avinger Funeral Home in Holly Hill with Rev. Terry Martin and Rev. Ken Hay officiating. Burial will be 1 p.m. Friday in the Keowee Baptist Church Cemetery, 4640 Keowee Road, Honea Path, with Rev. Richard Ashley officiating. Miss Hanks was born in Abbeville County, a daughter of the late Thomas Herbert Hanks and Elizabeth Pearman Hanks. She was retired from the Honea Path Shirt Factory and was a life-long member of Keowee Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by sisters, Ora Bell Hanks, Elma Hanks, and Mary Hanks; brothers, Guy Hanks, Herman Hanks, Herbert A. 'Duck' Hanks and J.A. 'Driggers' Hanks. Surviving are; a niece, Francine (Howard) West of the Providence Community, Holly Hill; a great-nephew, Frank (Lisa) West of St. George; a great-niece, Alice (Ward) Avinger of Holly Hill; a great-great-niece, Abbie West of St. George; and great-great-nephews, Trey and Hanks Avinger of Holly Hill. The family will receive friends after the service. Memorials may be made to Grove Park Hospice, PO Box 701, Orangeburg, SC 29116 or Keowee Baptist Church, Cemetery Fund, 4640 Keowee Rd., Honea Path, SC 29654. The family would like to thank the staff of Grove Park Hospice for the wonderful care they provided to Ida Lou and her family.
