Homer D Mears, Sr.

NORTH AUGUSTA- Mr. Homer D Mears, Sr., 95, passed away quietly Thursday at a local health care facility after a brief illness. He was predeceased by his wife, Louise Raymond Mears and a son, Homer Mears, Jr. Mr. Mears is survived by a daughter, Barbara (Neil) Breland of North Augusta, and a son, Harry (Annette) Mears of Eutawville. He has four living sisters, Edith Nettles, Eliza Horton, Gladys (Dick) Deloach and Dolly Ramsey. The family includes seven grandchildren and many great grands. Mr. Mears was a retired businessman and owner of Holly Hill Furniture Company. He grew up in rural Jasper County, SC as part of a large farming family of 16 children. As a longtime resident of Holly Hill, SC, Mr. Mears was a family man known for his love of sports, especially Carolina football and Braves baseball. He was an avid and capable golfer. He was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church of Holly Hill having served as a deacon in his church. Mr. Mears had a vivid memory and enjoyed regaling listeners with humorous stories of his youth, family, and business happenings. Services will be held on Saturday, January 13, 11:00 am at Avinger Funeral Home in Holly Hill with the Rev. Marshal Locke officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday beginning at 10 am until the time of service. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Holly Hill, PO Box 235, Holly Hill, SC 29059.
