HOLLY HILL - John Heyward West, 84, of the Providence Community, husband of Annette Riser West, died Saturday, September 21, 2013 at the Regional Medical Center in Orangeburg. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Providence United Methodist Church with Rev. Terry Martin officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Robert West, David Earl Fersner, Frank West, Darrell West, Ronnie Phillips, and Donald Fogle. Heyward was born in Orangeburg County, a son of the late Earl Eugene West and Lillian Shuler West. He was a graduate of Providence High School, and was an Army veteran of the Korean War. A life-long farmer, he was a fan of the Atlanta Braves and the Clemson Tigers. Heyward was a member of Providence UMC, and was preceded in death by brothers, O'Bryan, Gene, Raymond, and Leon West, and brother-in-law, Lamar Fersner. In addition to his wife of 52 years, surviving are sons, William West (Amy) and Woodie West (Jackie), both of Holly Hill; a sister, Helen Fersner of Cameron; brothers, Howard West (Francine) and Francis "Cap" West, both of Holly Hill; a grandson, Tyler West of Holly Hill; and beloved pets, Sandi and Scotty.
