It is with heartfelt sorrow that we announce the death of our father, Herbert M. Avinger of Eutawville, who passed away at the VA Medical Center in Charleston on Saturday, March 23, 2013. He proudly served his country for 26 years, retiring as a Master Sergeant in 1975 from the U.S. Air Force. Herbert was born March 18, 1933 in Eutawville, the son of the late Herbert F. Avinger and Susan E. Sweatman Avinger. On December 26, 1953 he was married to Lizzie M. Parker Avinger who preceded him in death April 1, 2010. They were the parents of three daughters who survive, Norma (Mike) Thornley of Holly Hill, Carol (Gary) Click of Tucson, AZ, and Sarah (Paul) Thiel of Anchorage, AK. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren, Jennifer (Mark) Wilson, Amanda (Robert) Widmyer, Sherry Thornley, Steven (Melissa) Corral and Jorryn Thiel; six great-grandchildren, Tristan, Jayden, Moriya and Alyzabeth Corral, Emma Thornley and R.J. Widmyer. A sister, Betty (Joe) Towns also survives. He was preceded in death by a sister, Katie A. Carson. A visitation will be held at Avinger Funeral Home, 2274 Eutaw Road, Holly Hill, Tuesday, March 26, 2013 from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at Pressley Memorial Pentecostal Holiness Church, County Line Rd., Cross, SC. Burial will be Thursday, March 28, 2013 at Fort Jackson National Cemetery in Columbia, SC. Rev. Ron Causey, Rev. Gary Click and Rev. Steven Corral will officiate. 2 Corinthians 5:8 - We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord. Love You Special!
