Harvey Carter Rast Jr, 86 of Eutawville, South Carolina, passed away on Wednesday, October 15, 2025. Born on March 3, 1939, Harvey was the son of Azalee Stroman and Harvey Carter Rast. Sr.
Harvey is preceded in death by his parents and a sister Edna Rast Knight (Heyward).
Harvey leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 56 years George Ann Simmons Rast; a daughter Stella Lynn Rast Bozard (David L.); a sister Sherrill Rast Way (Frank); grandchildren Harlee Bozard Metzger (Tony) and Colin Bozard; great grandchildren Baylor and Jarrod Metzger; sister-in-law Lynn Simmons Gaynor and numerous nieces and nephews.
Harvey accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior at the tender age of twelve and faithfully participated in the Baptist Churches of Bowman, Holly Hill, and Eutawville. His early education was received in the Bowman School System. In 1963, he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from South Carolina State University. He participated in post graduate studies at University of South Carolina, University of North Carolina, Clemson, and the Citadel. He was teacher, coach, driving instructor and supervisor of transportation for the Bowman and Holly Hill Schools. He advanced to the South Carolina State Department of Education to the position of school bus driver trainer and later supervisor of the Summerville and St. George school bus shops.
Immediately after high school, Harvey volunteered for the United States Army. After two years of active duty, he completed thirty-three additional years in the Army Reserves, rising to the rank of Sargent Major. Again, his duties were in the field of education.
In 1960, Harvey became a Mason, serving as Master of Bowman Lodge #290 several times. He was District Deputy Grand Master in 1999. He also held life membership in the York and Scottish Rites and the Omar Shrine Temple.
After retiring from education and the military, Harvey became a supervisor with the Southeastern Boll Weevil Education Program. Finally, he retired ten years later to enjoy traveling and hosting family and friends at his North Carolina mountain home.
A Memorial Service will be held Sunday, October 19, 2025, at 2PM at First Baptist Church of Eutawville, 507 Factory Road, Eutawville. The family will receive friends after the service.
