Ms. Griffin was born June 16, 1927 in Providence, to the late Furman Edward Shuler and Hazel Moorer Shuler. She graduated Providence High School and retired from Al Bilton Ford as a book keeper and parts clerk. Ms. Griffin was a lifelong member of the Providence United Methodist Church and the Providence community. She had an intense love for her God and Church. She enjoyed square dancing, oil painting and crocheting. There are afghans and baby blankets from here to Romania that she made and gave to others to enjoy. Ms. Griffin was a wonderful mother and grandmother and was very proud to share with others about her children's and grandchildren's activities. As a mother to her three children, she was their first coach and their most ardent supporter as they participated in an array of sports. As Jim became a baseball pitcher, she always warmed him up before his games. Her past few years have been a struggle, but she met all challenges with a strong faith, dogged determination and much support from her family. She was predeceased by a brother, F. Edward Shuler, Jr.; and former husband, James Boyce Griffin, Sr. Survivors left to cherish her memory are daughters, Brenda (Bobby) Ballard of Elloree and Sharon (Carroll) Cheek of Providence; a son, Jim (Lou) Griffin of Columbia; sisters, Mildred Shuler of Providence and Miriam (Pete) Smoak of Branchville; grandchildren, Brandon and Brittany Cheek of Bluffton, Kevin (Allyson) Griffin of Walterboro, Kristen (Mark) Heckle of Fleetwood, NC, Missy (Dave) Copeland of Irmo, and Charles Christian Smith of Lexington; and great grandchildren, Carlyle and Matilyn Griffin, Christopher Heckle, Caroline and Paul Copeland and Emily Smith. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Avinger Funeral Home, Holly Hill. Memorials may be made to Providence United Methodist Church, 4037 Vance Road, Holly Hill, SC 29059.
