Frederick W. Dantzler Retired Holly Hill Postmaster HOLLY HILL - Frederick Whitfield Dantzler, 82, of Holly Hill, died Tuesday, December 20, 2011 at the Magnolias of Santee. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Holly Hill United Methodist Church with Rev. Cooper Stonestreet and Rev. Albert Cox officiating. Burial will follow in the Holly Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Chris Kullenburg, Dr. Robert Ornelas, John Shealy, David Shealy, John Kennerly, Bob McCurry, Jr., Howie Sohm, and Guy Miller. Mr. Dantzler was born in the Providence Community the son of the late Fred Connor Dantzler and Blanche Haigler Dantzler. He graduated from Providence High School and served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Dantzler worked in the Holly Hill Post Office for 38 years, serving as postmaster for 23 years. He was a member of the Holly Hill United Methodist Church where he was a member of the Methodist Men, and the Chapel Sunday School Class. Mr. Dantzler was a member of the Holly Hill Lions Club, Vance Masonic Lodge, and the Wednesday morning Prayer Group. A long time cub master and scout master, he was instrumental in building the Boy Scout Hut in Roy Gilmore Park. Mr. Dantzler attended several scouting jamborees, Philmont Scout Ranch, and other national scouting events. He was the recipient of the Silver Beaver Award. His hobbies included wood carving, fishing, hunting, shrimping, camping, gardening, and golf. Mr. Dantzler and his wife, Dorothy Shuler Dantzler (his childhood sweetheart) were dedicated to making this world a better, more beautiful, and enjoyable place in which to live because they were a part of it. He was preceded in death by a sister, Doris Dantzler Henry. Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Dorothy Shuler Dantzler of Holly Hill; a son, Fred W. Dantzler, Jr. and his wife, Lisa of Simpsonville, SC; grandsons, Anthony Allen Dantzler and David Frederick Dantzler, both of Simpsonville, SC; nieces, Dee Dee H. Kullenburg, and Ann H. Clemmer; and a nephew, Edward Dantzler Henry. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Avinger Funeral Home, and other times at the residence, 1101 McCoy St., Holly Hill.
