HOLLY HILL- Frances M. Fields died in Charleston on February11,2018, after an extended illness. Funeral services will be at 11 am Thursday, February 15 at the graveside in the Holly Hill Cemetery, with Rev.CooperStonestreet officiating. Frances Mae Matthews was born on October 22, 1927, in Sampit, SouthCarolina, at the home of her maternal grandparents, and was the first child of Harry Brinkley Matthews and Sara Bourne Smith of Moncks Corner. She grew up in Moncks Corner, and graduated from Berkeley High School, and from the School of Nursing of the Medical College of South Carolina on February 1, 1950. Frances met her husband, Dr. Kendall O. Fields, while a student at the Medical College, and they were married on February 25, 1950. They lived for two years at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina where she was a nurse at the base hospital, and then moved to Holly Hill where they lived for 21 years, and where she was a nurse in her husband's private medical practice. Frances was an avid bridge player and enjoyed playing in her weekly bridge club in Moncks Corner, and her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband and a brother, Harry B. Matthews Jr. of Norfolk, Virginia. Surviving are her four children, Sally F. (Cliff) Miller of Holly Hill; and Ken Fields, Harry Fields (Mary Hope), and Fran F. Cornelius, all of Charleston; six grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the Holly Hill United Methodist Church, P.O.Box398, Holly Hill, SC 29059, or to a charity of one's choice.
