HOLLY HILL - Mrs. Ernestine Rhode Carter, 82, of Holly Hill, wife of William "Billy" Carter, widow of Joe S. Rhode, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 17, 2013 at Trident Medical Center after an extended illness. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Zion United Methodist Church, 1194 Zion Road, Dorchester, with Rev. Ronald Brewer officiating. Burial will follow in Rhode Memory Garden. Active pallbearers will be Michael Serra, Jonathan McCormick, Matthew Taylor, Britton Moorer, Wilbur Pendarvis, and Andy Pendarvis. Ernestine was a faithful member of Zion United Methodist Church, and a member and past officer of the Dorchester Ramblers Square Dance Club. She was a member of The Red Hatters "The Duchesses of Dorchester," and an avid and award winning crocheter. Her great passion, besides her family which she love above all else, was traveling. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her three children, Daniel J. Rhode of Holly Hill, Connie (Charles) Serra of St. John's, Fla., and Miles Rhode of Holly Hill; four grandchildren, Heather (Matthew) Taylor, Michael (Laura) Serra, and Teresa (Jonathan) McCormick, all of St. Augustine, Fla., and Joseph Rhode of Charlotte, NC; three great-grandchildren, Keegan Taylor, Claudia Taylor and Riley McCormick; a sister, Evelyn Kizer of Rosinville; a brother, Leroy Blewer of St. George; and many special friends to whom she was a second mother. She will be dearly missed. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. this Tuesday at Avinger Funeral Home, Holly Hill, and other times at the residence.
