Deborah Rose Van Deventer

Deborah Rose Van Deventer, 65, of Holly Hill, South Carolina, wife of Dennis Van Deventer, passed away on Wednesday, August 12, 2026.

Born on June 5, 1961, in Dumont, New Jersey, Deborah was a daughter of the late Florence Caldera Sullivan and Donald Collins.

Deborah (“Debbie”) was one of those people who was difficult to put into words because so much of who she was was found in the way she made others feel. She loved the simple but beautiful things in life: the seasons changing to spring and then to summer, sunshine, flowers in bloom, tending to her garden, fresh fruit, every animal (especially dogs and cats), seeing the Lord's promise in every rainbow, Christmas, and, of course, anything pink.

But more than anything, she loved Jesus and she loved her family. Her faith wasn't simply something she spoke about; it was something she lived. She had a heart for caring for others and was always willing to help someone who needed it. She made everyone around her feel welcome and loved. She seemed to find her greatest joy in nurturing (whether it was people, animals, flowers, or anything else she placed in her care) and always had a beautiful smile on her face. Those who knew her could see the fruits of the Spirit reflected in the way she lived: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. She brought warmth into the lives of the people around her, much like the sunshine that she loved so dearly.

Her family will remember her in countless little things. In pink flowers and summer gardens, in rainbows, in warm sunny days, in the joy of Christmas, and in every quiet act of kindness done for someone else. Most of all, they will remember a woman who loved deeply, cared deeply, and whose faith in Jesus remained at the center of her life.

Deborah was preceded in death by her parents.

Deborah is survived by her devoted husband of 36 years, Dennis Van Deventer; her beloved children and their spouses, Sarah Lynch and husband Jonathan, Daniel Van Deventer, David Van Deventer and wife Victoria, and Grace Van Deventer; her precious grandchildren, Benjamin and Everly; her siblings, Patrick Collins and wife Jackie, and Colleen Sullivan Palus and husband John.

The service will be held Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Avinger Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Holly Gardens Cemetery in Holly Hill.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
