David Morris Tawes

David Morris "Dave" Tawes, 68, of Holly Hill, South Carolina, passed away on June 24, 2026, one day before his 69th birthday.

Born on June 25, 1957, in Crisfield, Maryland, Dave was the son of the late Charles Bert Tawes and Nelly Schaeffer Morris.

Dave dedicated much of his life to serving others and working hard. In his younger years, he proudly served with the Frankfurt Fire Company for 13 years, where he fought fires and worked on the ambulance, helping those in need throughout his community.

He later spent more than 20 years as a truck driver with Interstate Batteries before relocating to Holly Hill, South Carolina. After moving to Holly Hill, Dave continued his trucking career with Orangeburg Foods, where he completed an impressive 35-year career as a professional truck driver. Following his retirement from trucking, he worked for Allied Universal for several years.

On April 2, 2011, Dave married Rose Shuler together they shared many happy years filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories.

Dave enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. He loved visiting flea markets, spending time at the CB radio shop, and was always ready for a good conversation over the radio. He especially enjoyed eating crab legs, and one of his favorite places to visit was Phillips Crab House, a place that held special memories because his father had worked there.

He is survived by his loving wife; his sons, Jason Tawes, and daughter-in-law, Nikki Tawes and Brian Tawes; his step-son Jim Bunch (Holly); step-daughter Crystal Bunch; grandchildren, Jaxson, Bailey, Sophia, Brody, Braden, Adalyn, Wyatt, Willow, and Weslyn; along with many extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at Avinger Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at 12:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Burial will conclude at Island Cemetery, 224 Nonnie Curve Road, Santee.
