Charles Robert Glasser, Sr., 86, of Holly Hill, died Tuesday, February 3, 2015 at MUSC hospital in Charleston. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Holly Hill United Methodist Church with the Rev. Cooper Stonestreet officiating. Burial will be at 3:00 p.m. in the Grahamville Cemetery near Ridgeland. Mr. Glasser was born in Estill, the son of the late Howard F. Glasser, Sr. and Sarah Solomons Glasser. A graduate of Ridgeland High School, he served in the Army during World War II. He was a qualified marksman and Truck Master Specialist, receiving the World War II Victory Medal and Army of Occupation Medal Japan before being honorably discharged in 1948. He married his high school sweetheart, Archie Lee Lewis, on May 28, 1955 and they raised four children they adored. He was very involved in his children's lives; teaching them to swim and body surf, and was always ready for a game of catch or tag. Whether helping repair a broken toy or helping with a school project, he gave equal attention to all his children. When they participated in an event, he was there. He took great pleasure in yard work, gardening and working with his hands. He was employed by United Telephone Company of the Carolinas for over 35 years and upon retirement enjoyed part time duties at Holly Hill United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife of over 57 years, two brothers Howard F. Glasser, Jr. and John W. Glasser, a sister, Sarah Ann Glasser, and an infant son. He is survived by his children Charles Robert Glasser, Jr. (Patricia) of Mt. Pleasant, William Allen Glasser of Salley, Sarah Lee Burch (Lou) of Holly Hill and Cecilia Glasser of Camden; grandchildren, Ashton Glasser, Christina Glasser, Louis "Hays" Burch, Pierce Allen Burch, and Austin Barnes; step-grandson, Russ Rickborn, "adopted" granddaughter, Staff Sergeant Jessica Ormston, and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by a sister, Jane (Wallace) Stanley of Ridgeland, and a brother, Elliott (Jean Walsh) Glasser of McClellanville .
