Blonde Shuler Dantzler

HOLLY HILL - Mrs. Blonde Shuler Dantzler, 87, of the Providence Community, Holly Hill, widow of Heyward N. Dantzler, died Wednesday, December 2, 2015 at Longwood Plantation in Orangeburg. Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Providence United Methodist Church, 4833 Old State Rd., Holly Hill, with Rev. Terry Martin and Rev. Karen Starr officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mrs. Dantzler was born in Elloree, the daughter of the late Wyman Erastus Shuler and Blonde Barton Shuler. She was a 1948 graduate of Winthrop College and received her Master's in Education from SC State College in 1989. Mrs. Dantzler was a long time elementary school teacher and retired as Assistant Principal of Holly Hill Primary School in 1992. She was Teacher of the Year at Holly Hill Primary School and Orangeburg Co. School District 3 in 1973 as well as Outstanding Elementary Teacher of America in 1973 and 1975. Mrs. Dantzler was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma International, Tri-County Administrators Association, and county, state, and national education associations. She was an active member of Providence United Methodist Church, having served as a Sunday School teacher, a member of the Administrative Board and Board of Trustees. Surviving are children, Heyward N. "Woody" Dantzler, Jr. (Frankie) of Santee, Jack Middleton Dantzler (Wendy) of Orangeburg, Delores Dantzler Harper (Bob) of Georgetown, and Barton Braxton Dantzler (Mary) of Holly Hill; grandchildren, Mary Ashley Harper Welch (Wes), Shelley Harper Verhagen (Andrew), Carrie Ruth Harper, Rebecca Kathleen Harper, Amber Dantzler Harrell (Trey), Rachel Dantzler (Matt), Zachery M. Dantzler, and Hailey K. Dantzler; two step grandsons; three great-grandchildren; four step great-grandchildren; and a step great-great grandson. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday at Avinger Funeral Home in Holly Hill. The family will receive friends at the home Friday afternoon from 1-5 p.m. and Saturday afternoon from 1- 4 p.m. Memorials may be made to Providence United Methodist Church, 2988 Bass Drive, Santee, SC 29142.
