Berley E. Dantzler

HOLLY HILL - Lt. Berley Edgar Dantzler, SCHP Ret., 74, of Holly Hill, husband of Annette Merritt Dantzler, died Friday, July 4, 2014 at his home after an extended illness. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Providence United Methodist Church with Rev. Terry Martin and Rev. Wayne Manning officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Lt. Dantzler was born in Holly Hill, son of the late Edgar Harry Dantzler and Grace Bookhart Dantzler. He was a 1957 graduate of Holly Hill High School, and served in the SC National Guard for 8 years. Lt. Dantzler started his working career with the SC State Hwy. Dept. in 1957 later transferring to the Highway Patrol where he served in the Charleston District and was named patrolman of the year in 1974. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, Holly Hill Lions Club, and the Sons of Confederate Veterans Colonel Henry Laurens Benbow Camp #859. He was a member of Branchville Christian Church and Providence United Methodist Church. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Michelle Dantzler Cook and her husband, David Earl of Flowery Branch, Ga.; a sister, Catherine D. Bookhart of Elloree; and grandchildren, Gabrielle Nicole Cook, Elisha David Cook, and Ethan Michael Cook, all of Flowery Branch, Ga. The family will receive friends 4 to 6 p.m. this Sunday afternoon at Avinger Funeral Home.
