Beatrice S. Avinger

Beatrice S. Avinger, 95, of Saint George, South Carolina, passed away on Tuesday, May 20, 2025.

Born on December 21, 1929, in Philadelphia, PA, Beatrice was one of fourteen children born to the late Charles Edward Smith and Alice Oakes.

Beatrice grew up with a love for God and Family. Affectionately known as Ms. B or Granny Beatie, to family and friends, she was a giving and loving person who enjoyed sharing stories of her many adventures whether working as a telephone operator before moving to the South or dancing with the troops at the local dance hall. Kind and generous to all she met, she was always ready to help even if that help was just sitting and listening to you.

Never one to miss a "snack," she was always ready to offer an oatmeal cookie with apple sauce or a bowl of ice cream, or some other snack whether it was after lunch or dinner. When eating out, she never passed up an opportunity, when presented, to have dessert first realizing what we all knew... dessert first is best.

Beatrice is preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Fred A. Lyons, and her second husband, Laurie W. Avinger; daughter Estah Ann Davis; sons, Arden C. Lyons and Matthew D. Lyons, step-children, Frances Ann Hinson, William Avinger, and Gail Kaiser, several grandchildren and her thirteen siblings.

Beatrice is survived by a daughter, Susan Keeley (William) of Saint George; and son, Joseph Lyons (Laura) of San Diego, California; grandchildren, Van (Elidia) Benton, Dan Benton, Randy (Kathleen) Davis, Mary (Austin) Heffner, Laura Lyons, and Steven Lyons; step grandchildren, Jeremy (Christina) Keeley, Tammy (Stanley) Taylor, Buck (Allen) Kaiser, Sabrina (Bruce) Carroll, and Brandy (Travers) Ford; numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren and devoted cousins, Sandra Hill and Joanne Fanning.

The family would like to also give a special thanks to Family Hospice in Charleston as well as Ms. B's special caregiver, Jennifer Rose.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 23, 2025, at 11am, at Avinger Funeral Home. The family will receive friends following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of ones choice.
