Barry Mouzan Mizell, 62, passed away peacefully at his home on January 24, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Barry was a farmer through and through—a man who felt most at home behind the wheel of a tractor or watching the sun rise over a freshly worked field. He believed the land was something you respected, cared for, and took pride in, much like family. Long days in the fields, honest labor, and the smell of fresh dirt weren’t just what he did—they were who he was.

Known to many as a stubborn mule with a heart of gold, Barry had a laugh you could hear down the road and a way of talking to folks that made everyone feel like a friend. He truly never met a stranger and would help anyone who needed it. Barry loved fishing and was especially proud when he bought his boat. He found peace in quiet places, whether sitting on the water with a line in the lake or standing in a field at daybreak—those were the places he felt closest to God.

Barry will be remembered for his joking manner, his stubborn streak, his kindness, and the great pride he took in being a dad.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lisa Mizell, and his father, Elliott “Ell” Sweatman.

Barry leaves behind his daughters, Megan Mizell (Douglas) and Rebecca Mizell (Daniel); his grandchildren, Dallas Dickson and Maggie, Sophia, and Wesley Tindall; his mother Ellen Singletary Ott: sisters Angie McManus (Tommy) and Wendy Long (Robert); brother, Bill Sweatman; aunt, Eva Clement; nephews, Kyle McManus (Kelly), Blake McManus (Michelle), and Josh Long; along with his great-nephews and great-niece; and his loving girlfriend, Tina Jeffcoat.

Those who would serve as Honorary Pallbearers would be Tommy McManus, Bill Sweatman, Kyle McManus, Steve Whetstone, Bobbie Lee Gatson, Mark Jackson and Calvin Strock.
