Marie James Burk, 87, of Holly Hill, wife to Andrew Willeford Burk, Jr. for 68 years, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, March 24, 2021, surrounded by her family.
Funeral Service will be 11am Saturday, March 27th at Corinth Baptist Church with the Rev. Dan Johnson, officiating. Burial will follow at the Target United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 pm until 7 pm Friday at Avinger Funeral Home on Friday, March 26th.
Marie Burk was born on October 09, 1933 in Miley, SC, daughter of the late Lawrence Edgar James and Lucile Clifton James Parker.
She was a graduate of Holly Hill High School and Draughan’s Business College in Columbia, SC.
Marie was a life member and past president of the Holly Hill Music Club. She was an accomplished pianist and served as church pianist in eight Southern Baptist churches. She was secretary to the Director of the Baptist Missions in Taipei, Taiwan. In addition to being a pianist in many churches, she served as Treasurer and Bookkeeper for First Baptist Church in Holly Hill, SC.
Marie enjoyed bible study and tea with Baptist Missionaries Martha Franks, Bertha Smith, Pearl Johnson and Madame Chiang Kai-shek. As well as being an avid cook who enjoyed learning how to prepare Chinese cuisine, she was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed Cross Stitching.
Survivors include her husband, Andrew Burk; her sister Joyce J. Crosby (Everett); her daughters, Cathlene Stephens and Lu Anne Harvison (Jon); her son, James Burk (Michelle); her grandchildren, Andrew Stephens (Casey), Jordan Stephens, and Laura Burk and her great-grandchild, Lillian Hayes. The family wishes to thank Tamra McClung, Lori Smalls and Shunda Evans for their friendship and care. Memorials may be made to Corinth Baptist Church, Post Office Box 69, Vance, SC 29163.
