Larry J. Marchant

HOLLY HILL - Larry James Marchant, 77, of Holly Hill, husband of Annette W. Marchant, died Thursday, June 9, 2016 at his home. A memorial service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Indian Field United Methodist Church with Rev. Ed Stiltz, Rev. Gene Ball, and Rev. Doug Marchant officiating. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends from 11:00 to 12:45 before the service in the church fellowship hall. Larry was a son of the late Fitzu Marchant and Pearline Infinger Marchant. A graduate of Harleyville-Ridgeville High School, he was retired from Jacobs Applied Engineering, and was currently working with the SC Safety Council. Larry was a faithful member of Target UMC and a former member of Indian Field UMC, he was a Sunday School Teacher and served on various church committees at both churches. Larry was a former member of the Dorchester County School Board Districts 3 4, a founding member of the Upper Dorchester County Rescue Squad, former member of the Holly Hill Rescue Squad, a member of Egeria Masonic Lodge #71, and a member of the Fishers of Men. His passion was helping those in need and he worked tirelessly and vigorously for the residents at Hebron Grace Home in Santee. Larry was a loving and doting husband, father and grandfather who loved life. He lived his Christian beliefs through helping others, showing unmatched compassion and selflessness. He will be greatly missed. Surviving are his wife of Holly Hill; children, Laureen (George) Blakley of North Augusta, Rhonda (Clarence) Johnson of Branchville, Jonathan Todd (Kim) Watkins of Eutawville, and Briana Suzanne Marchant of Holly Hill; sisters, Dicksie (Wallace) Knight of Harleyville, and Netta (Victor) Atkins of St. George; a brother, Donald (Peggy) Marchant of Rosinville; a sister-in-law, Carolyn Marchant of Canadays; grandchildren, Michael Blakley, Matthew Blakley, Nichole Johnson, Andrew Crump, Kaylee Johnson, and Bethany Martin; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Roland Marchant. The family extends may thanks to Beacon Hospice, Dr. Corynne Boyer and Lori McFadden, R.N. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hebron Grace Home, PO Box 407, Santee, SC 29142.
