1934 John 2018

John Harvey Bozard

December 24, 1934 — January 29, 2018

EUTAWVILLE-John Harvey Bozard was born Dec 24, 1934 in Orangeburg SC the son of Ruth Hogan Bozard Jenness and John Lee Bozard. In 1951, John enlisted in the United States Air Force. As a young airman, he was instructed in the maintenance of some of the United States most valuable assets - its military airplanes and jets. He was initially involved in the design and maintenance of one of our nation's most important deterrents of the Cold War - the B-47 Stratojet, the foundation of the Air Force's Strategic Air Command. He was very proud of his contribution to the service of this jet and indeed, one of the B-47's that he worked on is on display at the Mighty Eighth Airforce Museum in Pooler, Georgia. When the B-47 program was discontinued, John trained on several of the huge cargo planes, some of which are still in service today including the C5 and the C141. Both of these planes flew in and out of Charleston Air Force Base and as both a civil service employee and member of the 315th MAW Reserve Unit, John did above and beyond to keep these planes in safe service. As an active member of the USAF and Air Force Reserves, John received many accolades and commendations, as well as promotions, for his dedicated and focused attention to the safety and upkeep of the planes entrusted to his care. When he resigned from active duty he continued his contribution to the Air Force as a DoD Aircraft Mechanic and member of the 315th MAW Reserve Unit, giving his training and knowledge back to the industry that he loved so much. He continued to rise in promotions, finally culminating as a Supervisor over aircraft maintenance with the highest rank available to an NCO - Chief Master Sargent. John retired from Civil Service and the Air Force Reserves in 1994, with a 41-year history of service to his country. John enjoyed traveling and camping, working on his home and providing assistance to friends and family. He is survived by his wife Myra, daughters Mara Dee Bradham (Gary) and Traci Lynn Bozards (Paul), brother Charles E. Bozard, sister-in-law Donna R. Smith, 4 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. The family asks in lieu of flowers, contributions be given to the Wounded Warrior Program. Services will be held at the Beaufort National Cemetery, 1601 Boundary Street, Beaufort, South Carolina at 1:00 pm on Friday February 2, 2018.
