EUTAWVILLE - Jessie Milton Smith, 88, of Eutawville, first married to the late Arlene S. Smith, and the widower of Maedell B. Smith, passed away Saturday, December 3, 2016 at his home. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at AVINGER FUNERAL HOME in Holly Hill. Burial, with military honors, will follow in Plantation Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Jesse was born in Tylertown, Miss. a son of the late Jacob Milton Smith an Era Bell Magee Smith. 'Papaw' as he was known to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren proudly retired from the Navy (a veteran of Korea and Vietnam Wars) and Naval shipyard. He loved telling stories and we all loved listening to them. We all have our own memories, but we grandchildren share the ones of summer sausage, cheese curds, bluegrass music, western movies, and his love. As most know, Papaw lived on Lake Marion. It will always be Papaw's Lake to his beloved family. It won't be the same without him. It will always be Home with the memories and love he left behind. Surviving are daughters, Sara Silva, Terri Whitson and Jo Jernigan, all of Moncks Corner; sons, George Silva, Jack Roach, and Mavon Jernigan; step-children, Roger, Dennis, Bett, and Faye; sister, Margaret Payne of Violet, La.; brother, Jerrel Smith of Byram, Miss.; grandchildren, Jodie (Rik) Basye, Justin (Kari) Whitson, Jessie (Robbie) Legette, Jordan Jernigan, Cody Jernigan and Kaitlyn (Tad) Mitchell; great-grandchildren, Kasey Piland, Kaydence Whitson, Jade Legette, Laine Whitson, Savanna Basye, Matthew Legette, Marcus Basye, Delcie Chase, and Aaron Chase. Memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.
