Hurchel Shuler Clark

HOLLY HILL - Mrs. Hurchel Shuler Clark, 99, of Holly Hill, widow of John David Clark, died Monday, August 25, 2014 at the Regional Medical Center in Orangeburg. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church, Holly Hill, with Rev. Marshall Locke, Rev. Earl Behr, and Rev. Bob Lee officiating. Burial will immediately follow in Corinth Baptist Church Cemetery. Mrs. Hurchel was born in Orangeburg County, a daughter of the late Pinkney Leeirby Shuler and Lillie Culclasure Shuler. She was a graduate of Providence High School and Borne Business School in Columbia. Mrs. Hurchel worked for the former EA Crout and Co., Harvey and Rhame Co., and Holly Hill Fertilizer Co. While working at the Fertilizer Co. she met her husband. They then established and operated their family farm and farm supply business. Mrs. Hurchel was an active member of First Baptist Church where she was a member of the choir and the Women's Missionary Union. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, David H. and Foye R. Clark of Holly Hill; a daughter and son-in-law, Sylvia C. Shoptaw and S. W. Shoptaw of Corpus Christi, Tex.; grandchildren, Shawn W. Shoptaw (Nora), Stacy L. Shoptaw (Jana), D. Hamilton Clark, Jr. (Krista), and Nicole C. Johnson (Jason); and great-grandchildren, Mason, Kaden Kelton, and Keegan Shoptaw, Micayla Johnson, Annette and Lyndsey Clark. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Avinger Funeral Home, Holly Hill.
