Harriet Ann Way Hutto

Harriet Ann Way Hutto, widow of O'Dean Wilkes Hutto Jr, of the Providence Community, Holly Hill, S. C., died in the early morning hours of October 17, 2015, three days after her 87th birthday. Visitation is scheduled at Avinger Funeral Home on Sunday afternoon, October 18, from 5:00-7:00 P.M. Funeral services will be held Monday, October 19, 11:00 A.M., at Providence United Methodist Church, 4833 Old State Road, Holly Hill, with the Rev. Terry Martin officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Richard Hutto, Dean Hutto, Hank Hutto, Laurence Hutto, Tom Hutto and Jimmy Barry. The daughter of the late Hattie Mae Harrison and Richard Madison Way, Mrs. Hutto was born October 14, 1928. All of her childhood years were spent in Holly Hill, S. C. She graduated from Furman University and then obtained her nursing degree from the University of South Carolina. She was an instructor in the nursing school at Orangeburg Regional Hospital. She married O'Dean W. Hutto Jr. in 1953, and she was very involved with the bookkeeping aspects of Hutto Farms and Hutto Stock Yard, the family businesses. She was a member of the Providence United Methodist Church and served as church treasurer for 40 years. She was chosen "Mother of the Year" in 2013 by the church. She was an active member of the Providence United Methodist Women, serving in many capacities both locally and at the District level. She was named "Woman of the Year" by the UMW in 2001. After the death of her beloved husband in 2007, she moved to Magnolia's of Santee where she became a vibrant part of the residents there as long as she was physically able. Mrs. Hutto is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Richard Barry Hutto (Sara Boynton Hutto) of Holly Hill and John O'Bryan Hutto (Tami Reeves Hutto) of St. George; three grandsons, Richard Barry Hutto, Jr., Dean Boynton Hutto and John "Hank" Hansford Hutto and one granddaughter, Savannah Elizabeth Hutto. Deep appreciation is extended to the staff of Magnolia's of Santee and Regency Hospice. Memorials may be made to Providence United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, 2988 Bass Drive, Santee, SC 29142.
