Gus Wimberly

BOWMAN - William E. "Gus" Wimberly, 72, of Bowman, died Thursday, May 28, 2015 at his home. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Ebenezer United Methodist Church with Rev. Marie Ray and Rev. Bob Lee officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Skeeter Huff, Paul Gramling, John Felder, Timmy Judy, Barrett Smith, and Perry Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be Alva Whetsell, Thomas Riser, Jerry Whetsell, and Ken Whetsell. Gus was born in Orangeburg County, a son of the late Joseph Wesley Wimberly and Eula Whetsell Wimberly. A former dairy farmer, he was also worked at Bowman Texaco/Shell, and currently was the owner of Wimberly Tire Service. Gus enjoyed gardening and was an avid hunter. He was a member of W W Hunting Club and a member of Ebenezer UMC. Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Nancy Bozard Wimberly; daughter, Wendy Wimberly of Bowman; son, John (Kristen) Wimberly of Bowman; brothers, Jody and Danny Wimberly, both of Bowman; and grandchildren, Callie Stokes, Katie, Hunter, and Ashton Wimberly, Madison and Ragan Steele. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. this Friday at Avinger Funeral Home, Holly Hill, and other times at the family home.
