EUTAWVILLE- Edith Marie Bockhardt Prosser was born to Ludwig and Marie Petrie Bockhardt November 15,1931 in Darmstadt, Germany and passed away September 16, 2017. She was the youngest of six sisters. "Edit" was quite intelligent, testing into the Adolph Hitler Schooler school system at a young age and making her parents very proud. Later in life she would jokingly say that her mother remarked "Thank God I had one girl who made it!" As a German War Bride, Edith came to America in 1948. She proudly earned her US citizenship in 1953 and always cherished her Lutheran faith. Edith, who never suffered fools lightly, was an industrious person full of vim and vigor and ran a "tight ship" while raising and caring for her family. Edith was predeceased by her parents, four sisters, and her son, Norman Pate Prosser. She leaves behind her husband of 69 years, Pate Phillip Prosser; two daughters, Doreatha (Sam) Pierce of Pawleys Island and their son Austin (Stephanie) Pierce of Charleston, Kasandra (Henry) Doughty and their son Pierce Doughty of Charleston; a daughter-in-law, Gloria Bessinger Prosser of Summerville and her son Chris of Ohio; three great-grandchildren: Pate, Michael, and Kadee Pierce of Australia; a step-great-granddaughter, Rebecca Hair, of Charleston. A sister, Inge, remaining in Germany along with several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Tuesday, September 19, 2017 from 11 am until 12:30 pm at Avinger Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow at 1 pm at the Eutawville Cemetery with the Rev. Wayne Young officiating. "I'll wait for you in heaven," Edith recently told her family. "Gute Nacht, Fare Thee Well, Auf Wiederschen. Alles Gute, Mama."
