David Alan Douglas

David Alan Douglas, 60, of Columbia, previously of Holly Hill, died on Saturday, December 22, 2012. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, December 29, at Avinger Funeral Home in Holly Hill. Mr. Douglas was born December 20, 1952, in St. Petersburg, Florida, the oldest son of the late Jones Blane Douglas and Eleanor Nilsson Douglas. He lived in Monticello, FL, and Springfield, SC. He was a graduate of Holly Hill High School and worked for the South Carolina Highway Department at the time of a life-changing motorcycle accident in October 1972. Despite his accident and subsequent disabilities, true to his early inclinations, David was still passionate about all vehicles that were fast and loud, including go-karts, automobiles and, especially, motorcycles. He was preceded in death by a brother, Blaine Douglas, and a sister, Marsha Welsch. Survivors include his step-mother, Mrs. Jones B. (Dorothy Wilson) Douglas, of Springfield; siblings, Steven L. (Vicki) Douglas of Terre Haute, IN, and Mrs. Hayward D. (Gail) Wiggins, III of Holly Hill; uncle, John L. Douglas of North Augusta; aunts, Cindy Douglas of Moncks Corner and Hilda Douglas of West Columbia; nephews and nieces, Darren N. Douglas and Zoe A. Douglas of Terre Haute, IN, Craig A. (Kamron) Douglas of Evansville, IN, Jenna N. Douglas of Jupiter, FL, Jereme E. (Holly) Gregory of Knoxville, TN, Mia Gregory (Mark) Thomas, Michelle (Chris) Peagler, Amy L. (Stevie) Bunch, Regina N. Wiggins and Rebecca G. Wiggins, all of Holly Hill, and Sunny S. Welsch of St. Augustine, FL.; grand nieces and nephews, Amber N. Clark, Dallas H. Clark, Lauren E. Bunch, and Allison L. Thomas, all of Holly Hill, Trevor L. Douglas and Christensen K. Douglas of Evansville, IN, and Kylie and Brantley Gregory of Knoxville; and numerous cousins.
