A Message from Mark Smith, owner

Good afternoon. My name is Mark Smith, and on behalf of everyone at McAlister-Smith & Avinger Funeral Homes and Palmetto Cremation Society, I want to let you know that our hearts go out to each of you as we face the uncertainty of this Coronavirus pandemic. We are all in this together.

In our profession, built around serving people when the death of a family member or friend occurs, we understand that recent developments surrounding this pandemic have created concern about losing loved ones and how to make final plans in this restrictive environment. We know that we must adapt and be creative in order to be able to serve families and meet their grief needs in a way that is both SAFE and MEANINGFUL during this crisis. Please be assured, we are taking many steps to ensure the ongoing day-to-day operations of our funeral home locations continue to function while promoting the safety of our employees, families experiencing a death of a loved one, and any guests that may participate in the services on any level. In our community, we are known as the funeral home that is willing to think "out of the box" and create unique experiences to remember loved ones. Our great team is putting that creativity to work developing innovative ways of doing business in this changing climate. Part of that is using technology and remote communication in new ways. We are fully committed to the safety of our employees and those under our care, while continuing to provide the highest levels of service and support to those experiencing the loss of a loved one.

As the status of this emergency seems to evolve on a daily, if not hourly, basis, our staff members at each location remain stable and steady, with a full commitment to the take care of those who pass away in our community. We are making prudent decisions and putting our resources behind proactive problem solving. We are being nimble, open-minded and innovative in our approach. We are responding with urgency and focus, but not panic. Please know that we are here for you and we will keep you updated as we bring new and creative solutions to meet these challenges as the situation evolves. For now, please know that we have added signs at the entrance of each of our locations outlining current suggested practices according to the SC DHEC with all personal hygiene suggestions, health concerns and social distancing suggestions. We are also providing hand sanitizer near the entrance of each location and are aggressively disinfecting all public areas after each customer contact.

Arrangements and service planning may be addressed in person or remotely, using telephone, skype or zoom meeting video conference, email, fax, or on-line through our web-site. We are also offering at NO COST webcasting and streaming of all of our funeral home on-site visitations and services. This is especially valued and appreciated by the seniors, the sick, and others who are most vulnerable. This offering and our online condolences offer everyone the opportunity to participate and support the family while adhering to whatever quarantine guidelines are recommended.

Thank you to all of our staff members for the important work you do to serve families in our communities, and thank you to every member of our community for allowing us the tremendous honor and opportunity to walk with you through the very difficult season of your life when dealing with the loss of a loved one.

Please be assured that all of us at McAlister-Smith & Avinger Funeral Homes and Palmetto Cremation Society are doing everything we can do to provide a safe place for you and your family to honor, celebrate and remember your loved one with strict adherence to any and all restrictions required by the CDC and our state and local elected officials. Your continued care and safety will always remain first and foremost in all that we do. Please do not hesitate to reach out to us, or to me directly, for any further questions, concerns or suggestions on how we can serve you and your family during this especially challenging time.

May God continue to bless and watch over you and please, stay safe, look out for your neighbors, friends, and especially our seniors. My very best to you and your family.
