Personalized Funerals

A traditional funeral service often consists of a visitation for friends and family the evening before the service.  A chapel or church funeral is held the following day.

A custom funeral service often consists of a gathering for friends and family before the service. Usually this gathering is on the evening before the service or for a period on the day of the service. The funeral service will then be held in a church or at our funeral home chapel. The service then concludes with a committal ceremony at the final resting place.

A graveside service only is another option.  This type service are held completely at the grave site with no chapel or church ceremony prior.  Some families choose to gather at the funeral home and go to the cemetery in a procession, and some choose just to meet at the cemetery.

Considering Cremation

Cremation is the process of reducing the body to a residue of fine ash and calcium fragments called cremated remains, and is not a form of disposition. It is the preparation for memorialization just as is the traditional funeral. Many people believe that at the time of death only two basic choices exist: immediate cremation of the body or a complete funeral including viewing followed by burial.

Actually, these are extremes. With cremation, there are often more decisions to make than with traditional earth burial. You should take whatever time necessary to make those decisions. Please feel free to ask any questions that you may have. Types of services available are from very traditional services - to memorial services - to no service at all.

While these descriptions below cover the general types of cremation services, your choices are not required to fit exactly into any particular category. There are literally options within options available to provide a meaningful service with flexibility to meet the needs of each person or family that we serve.

Many families, realizing that the ceremonies surrounding death are for the survivors, most often desire traditional visitation periods and services that preclude the actual cremation. This allows for both the families' desire for sharing their loss with their family, friends, and community, while allowing for the desire for cremation. Whatever type of service you desire with cremation you will have to select a container or casket to place the body in for the actual cremation, and an urn. An urn is a dignified, permanent container for cremated human remains.
